Pre-Conference Convenings:
Welcome to the JusticeNOW2024 pre-conference sessions! We are thrilled to open this series of transformative conversations designed to deepen our understanding, strengthen our strategies, and unify our efforts toward liberation and justice. Our three pre-conference sessions will explore interconnected themes, guiding us from individual and local issues to global perspectives.
Session 1: Queering RJ: An Invitation to Expand
Led By: SPARK Reproductive Justice NOW! Inc.
“What does it mean to “Queer” Reproductive Justice, and why is it important that we do so? Join SPARK Reproductive Justice NOW! at our Pre-Conference Convening on Friday, November 15th at #JusticeNOW2024! “Queering RJ: An Invitation to Expand,” is a radical exploration of Reproductive Justice through a liberation and abolitionist lens. This session will challenge conventional frameworks and invite participants to consider the expansive potential of Queering Reproductive Justice. By incorporating the lived experiences and insights of Gender Expansive, Trans, and Queer BIPOC communities, we can develop more inclusive and effective strategies for achieving Reproductive Justice. This approach not only broadens our understanding but also strengthens our collective resolve to dismantle oppressive systems and envision a future where all people are free.
Session 2: Surveillance, Cop City and Genocide: The Case for Abolition
Led By: M4BL and local organizers
This pre-conference will dive deep into a vis)ion for abolition. Uplifting conversations on the deconstructing of surveillance, Cop City and Genocide. Building on the foundation laid by “Queering RJ: An Invitation to Expand,” our second session addresses the urgent issues of surveillance, criminalization, and policing of Black people. “Surveillance, Cop City and Genocide: The Case for Abolition” will delve into the realities of state violence and the systemic targeting of our communities. By examining local examples of grassroots resistance, such as the fight against Cop City, we will explore abolitionist strategies that seek to eradicate these systems of oppression. This session underscores the connections between personal autonomy, community safety, and the broader struggle against systemic injustice.
Session 3: Global Attacks and Genocide: RJ-led Cross-Movement Strategies
Led By: HEART
Recognizing abolition as a radical strategy for achieving freedom and liberation, we will delve into an expansive conversation on global approaches to combat genocide using a Reproductive Justice framework. Our third session, “Global Attacks and Genocide: RJ-led Cross-Movement Strategies,” expands the conversation to a global scale. We will examine the intersections of Reproductive Justice with international struggles against genocide (in
Palestine, Sudan, Congo, and in other localities), ethnic cleansing, and the erasure of BIPOC people. This session aims to highlight how RJ principles can inform and support global resistance movements, fostering solidarity and shared strategies across borders. By understanding these global dynamics, we can better situate our local efforts within a larger context and build a more cohesive and powerful movement.
An Invitation to Engage
These pre-conference sessions are designed to be more than just informative. We invite you to listen, learn, share, and collaborate with fellow participants. Together, we will activate our collective wisdom and power, and challenge our approaches, work, and actions towards liberation and freedom. Each session builds upon the previous one, creating a thru-line that connects personal and community experiences with systemic and global realities. This integrated perspective is crucial for developing effective strategies and fostering true solidarity in our work. We hope these collective conversations and strategy creation can continue beyond the conference space.
We are excited to embark on this journey with you and look forward to the powerful insights and collaborations that will emerge from these sessions. Let us unite with open hearts and minds, ready to expand, challenge, and transform our approach to justice.
To freedom!
